With record heat in forecast, Cactus League spring training ballparks move game times and adjust fan policies

With a record heat wave approaching the Valley, Cactus League spring training ballparks are moving games to the evening and adjusting some game day policies. Triple-digit temperatures are forecast for the Phoenix metropolitan area from Wednesday, March 18 through Sunday, March 22.

Some ballparks are adjusting their game day policies to allow fans to bring in water or other drinks and are providing hydration stations. Fans are urged to check with their respective ballparks on permissible items and schedule changes.

“Facing an unprecedented March heat wave, Cactus League ballparks are showing their flexibility in moving some day games to the evening, when the temperatures are expected to be much cooler,” Cactus League Executive Director Bridget Binsbacher said. “The Cactus League’s No. 1 priority is the health and safety of all involved.”

The Cactus League urges fans to follow a few simple tips when attending spring training games in the Valley:
• Stay hydrated – and hydrate before you leave the hotel or the house.
• Seek shade. Most ballparks have shaded areas – look for seats in those sections.
• Wear hats, sunglasses and loose, light-colored clothing.
• Use sunscreen.
