Paul Konerko has roots in the Cactus League footprint. He graduated from Chaparral High School, where he was named 1994 Arizona High School Player of the Year as a senior. Drafted as a catcher that summer by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Konerko soon moved to first base. After the 1998 season, Konerko joined the Chicago White Sox. Konerko became a South Side fixture for 16 years – a fan favorite who made six All-Star teams and helped lead the White Sox to the 2005 World Series title. He was MVP of the 2005 American League Championship Series and received the 2014 Roberto Clemente Award in recognition of his community work.
