Bob Brenly

Bob Brenly’s association with the Cactus League began in 1981, when he made his major league debut with the San Francisco Giants. Brenly, a catcher and infielder, played for San Francisco from 1981-89 and had a brief stint with Toronto during that span. After retiring as a player, he joined the Giants’ coaching staff. Brenly then shifted his focus to broadcasting. In 1998, Brenly became a popular announcer for the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks. Three years later, Brenly moved from the booth to the dugout, piloting the D-backs to the 2001 World Series title in his first year as manager. He also won a division title the following season.
