Steve Vucinich grew up in Oakland, not far from the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. When the Athletics arrived from Kansas City in 1968, he was hired to be a ballboy and also worked in the clubhouse. Known as “Voos” to all, Vucinich became the A’s equipment and home clubhouse manager in 1994. His tenure included stops at five different A’s spring training ballparks – Rendezvous Park and both Hohokam Stadiums in Mesa, and Scottsdale Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium. By the time he retired after the 2021 season, Vucinich had spent 54 years with the A’s, eclipsing the legendary Connie Mack in years of service in franchise history.
