Rick Monday was a center fielder for two Cactus League clubs – Oakland Athletics (1968-1971) and Chicago Cubs (1972-1976). He finished his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1977-1984) before the team moved its spring training operation to Arizona. Monday starred at Arizona State University before becoming the first player selected in the inaugural Major League Baseball draft in 1965. On April 25, 1976, Monday, then a Cub center fielder, raced across the Dodger Stadium outfield to rescue the American flag as protestors attempted to set it on fire. He has served as a Dodgers broadcaster since 1993.
