As native of Tucson, Arizona, Pat Hughes’ roots are in the Cactus League. For more than 40 years, Hughes has called spring training games in Arizona as a radio play-by-play announcer. Hughes joined Milwaukee’s radio crew in 1984, teaming with fellow Cactus League Hall of Famer Bob Eucker for 12 years. In 1996, Hughes moved to the Chicago Cubs’ booth, where he joined another Cactus League Hall of Famer, Ron Santo. Hughes has remained the North Siders’ radio play-by-play voice ever since, and in 2023 was named the 47th recipient of the Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
