Ron Pies

Ron Pies didn’t wear a glove or swing a bat, but he played an important role in Cactus League history, often behind the scenes. Pies was a strong advocate for Cactus League facility funding at a time when outdated facilities threatened the existence of spring training in Arizona. Pies served as President of the Cactus League Baseball Association and Vice Chair of the Maricopa County Stadium District Advisory Committee. He also chaired the Arizona Baseball Commission established by then-Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. Pies retired in 1998 as Tempe Director of Community Services after 30 years with the city.
